Privacy Policy

What we collect when you read the site or subscribe, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to get it removed.

Last updated 16 August 2026

1. Who we are

Hot Off The Patent Press is operated from New Zealand. We are responsible for the personal information described here under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your information, email charlotte.print123@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

We collect three kinds of information.

  • Your email address, when you enter it to subscribe. This is the only thing we require.
  • Optional details you give us after subscribing: first and last name, job level, day-to-day function, company, industry, and company size. Every one of these is optional.
  • Technical and usage information: pages viewed, how far down a page you scroll, page performance measurements, general geographic location, and your device, browser, and referring site.

3. Why we use it

We use the information above to:

  • send you the newsletter and the confirmation email
  • understand which topics readers find useful, so we can choose what to cover
  • measure how the site is used and which pages work
  • measure whether our advertising reaches people who go on to subscribe
  • answer you when you get in touch

4. Why we are allowed to collect this

We collect your email address with your consent, given when you submit the subscribe form. Optional survey answers are given with your consent too, and you can leave every field blank.

For analytics and advertising measurement we rely on our purpose of understanding how the site is used and how readers find us.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies and browser storage for analytics and advertising measurement. We also store one item in your browser to remember that you dismissed the cookie notice, which is not used for tracking.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking them will not stop you reading the site or receiving the newsletter.

Our emails may record whether a message was opened and which links were clicked, which is standard in newsletter service provider platforms (ours being "Beehiiv") and helps us see which issues land.

6. Where your information goes

Our providers are based mainly in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside New Zealand. We stay responsible for it, and we have agreements with each of them that require them to protect it.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your subscriber record for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, Beehiiv keeps a record of the unsubscribe so that we do not email you again. Ask us to delete your information entirely and we will, unless we are required to keep something.

Analytics information is kept in aggregate for as long as it is useful for understanding how the site is used.

8. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us to:

  • confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you a copy
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete your information and remove you from the list
  • stop using your information for analytics or advertising measurement

Email charlotte.print123@gmail.com and we will respond within 20 working days. Every issue also carries an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately.

If you are unhappy with how we handled a privacy request, you can complain to us, and to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and subscriber information sits with our newsletter provider, Beehiiv. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.

10. Children

The newsletter is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will remove the record.

11. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will say so in the newsletter.
